Santa Fe and Taos was a whirlwind ride! It was seriously some of the most fun I've had in a long time. The people I met were a mix of interesting and unusual. Santa Fe introduced me to the hip and bourgeois art scene, which was something for such an unrefined person as myself. Met some travelers that were shooting a documentary (which I might be in) which was pretty cool. Shout out to Tiamo, the girl who searches for 'adventure' on Craigslist and then just goes.
Yes, even a brute like myself can drink champagne at an art gallery opening in front of a $8000 piece of work.
Taos, NM was a beast in and of itself. My first impression was 'this place is a dump, what is the draw?' However, Taos turned out to be extremely positive and yet can't really be explained. How I stayed 3 days in such a small town, I will never know? The wide spectrum of people I met there was wild. Checked out the Earthship community, visited an organic farm (super cool people and tons of chickens), and went into the Mesa. If you don't know anything about it, google it. Let's just say it's like 'Bartertown / Thunderdome' and the only reason I'm here is because two men entered. Taos is definitely not for everyone but it is everything to those that seek it.
Lastly, my yearning to pick up a hitchhiker is only surpassed by my desire to go to Alaska. While opportunities have presented themselves, most have been dirty and I didn't want my car to smell. (But oh the stories you would hear from them, never mind the safety issue.) Though, on my way out of Taos and toward Flagstaff, I finally got my chance. It was extremely fun and I seriously laughed the whole way to Albuquerque, at least. Such a pseudo-rad girl Jamie was.
